ROI (Region of Interest)

Cropping the sensor to increase frame rate

Definition

Region of Interest allows planetary cameras to read only a small portion of the sensor, dramatically increasing frame rate. For example, a 4K camera might achieve 30fps full-frame but 200fps+ at 640x480. Since planets are small, ROI captures all relevant data while enabling faster capture - crucial for lucky imaging.
